Another student once commented that I would become an art teacher. After decades of homemaking and raising a family, working in multiple galleries and writing for regional publications, I returned to school in the late 1980s to fullfill that young man's prediction, and after receiving a BFA in Art/painting, and an MFA in writing, I have been teachiong art to hundreds of children in my current city of Cleveland, Tennessee (30 miles north of Chattanooga, 60 miles south of Knoxville.)
Through the years, I have had a deep appreciation for having attended MVHS, and for living in a beautiful, bucolic country with good people.

Being a former commercial fisherman, the ocean was calling to get out of the congested Seattle suburbs. After 32 years at the Boeing Company, I retired to a beach house in Cannon Beach, Oregon.

I keep active in aerospace consulting, local civic affairs, Gideons, fishing, golfing and of course walking the beach. I completed another item on my bucked list and published a book,  "Fishing for Freedom"  which is on sale at Amazon.com and in some local book stores.  It is about commercial fishing in Alaska, written from the perspective of a 16 year old teenager. I also have a few copies for sale at 50% discount.

My wife keeps acitive in various local charities, church and home projects.

When the rain and storms come, we follow the sun to Chandler, Arizona. House projects just never seem to stop but at least it is dry.

After graduation from MVHS I went to Bethel College in St Paul, MN and earned a BA in Biology in 1969.  I then went on to Graduate School at Washington State U and finished a PhD in Botany with a minor in Biochemistry in 1975.  After a one year fellowship at the Smithsonian Institution I moved to Wisconsin for a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the U of Wisconsin in Madison.  In 1982 I left Academia to work for companies that make tools and reagents used in Molecular Biology.  I relocated to California to take a position at Applied Biosystems (now part of Thermo Fisher) in 1991.  I am currently working at Fluidigm Corporation in South San Francisco working with microfluidics and single cell genomics.  I will probably retire soon but haven't gotten around to it yet.  Outsde of work I enjoy painting and photographing the birds in the wetlands near my home.  I recently had my first car restored. It was purchased in 1971 At Blade Chevrolet in Mt Vernon. Now I take it out for a drive on occasion and even took it to a show.  When I retire I hope to have more time to travel and for cooking, sewing and other hobbies.  I will not be at the reunion but have enjoyed reading news of former classmates.  Send Sandra a MessageSend Sandra a Message
