Married 1 2
Years ago I read the book Whatever Happened to the Class of 65 and now I guess we will find out about many of us from MVHS.  I have enjoyed reading the bios so far and hope you will take the time to share your life story.

My wife says I am not funny so I will not attempt to try to top Hal Brookins bio.  I will stick to the facts as they say.  I graduated from UW in 1969 and then enlisted in the Army.  Following the usual training, I attended Infantry Officer Candidate School but had the good sense to transfer to Armour (tanks) and ended up a 1st Lt.  I left the Army in early 1972,and then attended the University of Kansas earning an MBA in 1974.

After earning an MBA, I started a 35 plus year career in the medical/pharmaceutical industry.  I started as a sales rep in LA and at the same time met Janet.  Using my sales skills,   I somehow convinced her to marry me. We have been married since 1974 and have a daughter Kelly who was born in 1980.

In 1976 we moved to Boston as I assumed a marketing position with the Kendall Company.  In 1977 we moved to NYC areas where I was a sales manager for several years.  Eventually we moved to Redmond, WA. where I worked first for Physio Control, then CooperVision IOL.  In 1990 following an acquisition of CooperVision IOL, we moved to Colleyville, Tx as I assumed a management position with Alcon Laboratories (eye care).  Over the next 19 years I held various executive positions and eventually became  President, CEO and Chairman in 2004.  Alcon was eventually acquired by Novartis  and I made a great decision to retire in 2009, but stayed on as Chairman until the merger was complete in 2011.

Janet and I now split our time between our home in the Tumble Creek community of the SunCadia Resort in Cle Elum and  the Superstition Mountain Club in Gold Canyon, AZ.  We are both active golfers, Husky fans, readers and do a fair amount of traveling.  Our daughter and son- in-law now live in Kirkland, WA so we expect to spend a great amount of time now with them and of course our lovely grandkids, Carrie age 2 and little Sam now 7 months.  What a joy!

I look forward to seeing many of you at  the reunion

Cary

Widowed 3 9

Although I grew up with the class of 1965 I did not graduate from MVHS. After loosing my father in my freshman year, I went to school in Canada for 2 years and then transferred to New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell NM. I have been very pleased and honored to have been included with the class over all these years and have attended several reunions. Personal family matters prevented me from attending this summer.

After my time at NMMI I decided that Annapolis was not going to be in my future so I returned to the UW where I graduated in 1970. During that time I married Cindy Misner, La Conner 1964, and over the years we had three great kids. I entered the Air Force and attended pilot training and was assigned to Pope AFB, NC where I flew C-130s all over the world. In 1975 the AF sent me to graduate school at USC where I studied aircraft accident investigation and flight safety. Our next assignment was RAF Mildenhall, UK as the Chief of Safety. Fortunately I only had one major aircraft accident to investigate during my tenure. While in England I pursued a masters degree in business from Troy State University which had a satellite program in Europe.

I left the AF after 8 and a half years and went to work for Continental Airlines in Denver, CO. Turmoil in the industry caused my layoff after a few years and fortunately I ended up at Alaska Airlines in Seattle where I had a great 27 year career, retiring in 2007. We moved from Denver  to La Conner where we raised our kids. I also continued my military career flying with the Wyoming Air National Guard and then transferring to the Navy Reserves at NAS Whidbey where I finished my career, retiring as a Commander in 1992.

Cindy and I parted ways in 2003 and I moved to Seattle. She remains in La Conner where she is very involved with the Historical Museum.

In 2007 I retired and my fiancé, Jan Dixon and I promptly went to Italy for a month. When we returned we decided that it was such a success to be able to spend a month together with just one suitcase each and not kill each other that it was time to get married.  Between the two of us we had nine grand kids which kept us very busy. Jan was an Alaska Airline flight attendant and her job gave us great flexibility to be able to pursue our travel bug. We spent a lot of time in Mexico and Hawaii (we were married in Maui in 2007) and had some fabulous cruises in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean and travels to Europe.

Jan and I lived in Browns Point in a great house with an indoor swimming pool which was a huge hit with the grand kids. It was great being the fun grandparents that had swimming parties. Needing to downsize however we sold our big house and moved to a beach front condo in West Seattle in 2014. Jan became ill in 2015 and tragically I lost her in May of this year. Now is a time of readjustment and reevaluation to what life has dealt. For now I plan to stay in West Seattle. Sorry to have missed the reunion.
