Enjoying the  best years of life living in my studio! I make quilts, aprons, and other things, and enjoy doing many arts and crafts, walking with my dog Daisy, reading, writing, and spending most weekends with my husband doing family things. The past two tulip seasons I have worked at Roozengaarde selling flowers and answering questions - just a little diversion from my normal routine. Our daughters are scattered around the state and I see them as much as possible. Looking forward to the reunion and seeing old (lol) friends and acquaintances. After military service and a career in journalism and publications, I retreated to the forest of Whidbey Island to be eccentric. All the real creativity is happening now. My wife, Sue, and I love rural life, dogs, gardening, wild birds and all the hardships of living in an inconvenient place. Sue is a Midwest farm girl, business manager for an ESL author and a formidable sketcher and watercolor artist. She paints and I write with a small group of masochists who meet weekly. After grinding out many short stories, my project now is to write a novel that may kill me.

I publish a blog every Saturday morning,  Off the Rails, which you'll find here: http://pedersenwrites.blogspot.com/. To receive an email when I post, send me your email address using the "Send a Message" button on the class website. Since leaving the city I've published two books about Whidbey Island. In 2006 I co-authored Getting to the Water's Edge on Whidbey and Camano Islands, and in 2009 my own book, Whidbey Island's Special Places. I fell into the improbable job of writing shoreline interpretive signage in partnership with an artist friend, and we've since created about 30 signs for the county's Marine Resources Committee and the City of Oak Harbor. This stage of life is by far the most fun.
