Many have asked for the Lyrics to the song we sang at the reunion Saturday night.

The song was, of course, Breaking Up is Hard to Do by Neil Sedaka.  A local Clinton Group called the Rural Characters sang this  song with different lyrics and I "lifted" them, tweeked them a bit, and here they are:

To tune of Breaking up is hard to do:

Down dooby do, down down
Memory’s going down dooby do, down down
Memory’s going down dooby do, down down
Remembering is hard to do

Can’t say your name,  tho’ I know it well,
It’s getting awkward, cuz I know you can tell,
Oh it’ll come to me in a moment or two
Remembering is hard to do

Standing here at the pantry door
With no idea what I’m looking for
Sure I didn’t come just for the view
Remembering is hard to do

They say that growing old is hard to do,
More and more, it’s like Dejavu
Don’t say that our reunion will end,
Instead of wrapping up, we wish that we were starting up again,

Can’t find my car in the parking lot,
It should be here, but I see that its not,
All I know is that it’s green or blue
Remembering is hard to do

Recalling things on the grocery list,
And what’s this string doing ‘round my wrist?
What’s her name is always dropping clues,
Remembering is hard to do

They say that growing old is hard to do,
More and more, it’s like Dejavu
Don’t say that our reunion will end,
Instead of wrapping up, we wish that we were starting up again,

I got my pills all counted out
A special box so there is no doubt
But every morning there’s an extra few.
Remembering is hard to do

I had a thought, went to write it down
Had another, as I fumbled around
Had a pen and paper, but nary a clue
Remembering is hard to do

They say that growing old is hard to do,
More and more, it’s like Dejavu
Don’t say that our reunion will end,
Instead of wrapping up, we wish that we were starting up again,

Down dooby do, down down
Memory’s going down dooby do, down down
Memory’s going down dooby do, down down
Remembering is hard to do
